AEM V2 cold air.....bad idea?
Hey so i just ordered an AEM V2 cold air intake and i was thinking about how much it would suck to get hydrolocked. has that happened to anyone or do you have any thoughts on the matter?

Post a pic of the intake..if its the one I'm thinking of, then it's not a true cold air intake.

RE: AEM V2 cold air.....bad idea?
i think the v2 is the real cold air intake. im more than sure this is the same one i found on a car my friend and i bought from a dude that hydrolocked it. it actually was kinda shitty cause it was a one piece, so no way to make it a short ram for those really wet days :\ bypass filter should take care of you

I know there is an AEM intake that they claim as CAI but when you look at it, it has no direct source of cold air and it's only slightlly extended from a SRI.

I don't understand why people are so afraid of hydrolocking. Just don't drive your car through anything that's deep enough for the filter to be COMPLETELY submerged and suck it up like a straw... which is pretty effin deep.

Customer: Hey do you think we should change out the transmission fluid?
Mechanic: No, it still looks nice and pink.
Customer: Well, a pussy can look nice and pink and still give you AIDs.
Mechanic: Yea, we should probably go ahead and change it.

Ok, that settles it..but yeah, you'll be fine...you have to completely submerge your car through water like the Nazi said to hydrolock.

RE: AEM V2 cold air.....bad idea?
I'm going short ram.. cold air would be bad around here [usually just the summertime when it does monsoon.. can get really crazy here sometimes.] Nothing here is built [well at least not on my side of town] to handle large quantities of water, so streets, parking lots, etc. flood very easily, even up to a half a foot of water. It's not fun driving in that shit. haha

thats too bad, i have a aem cai (blue) normal intake that would work well for u in my cars trunk, its cut for the bypass valve too, but it doesn't have one.

RE: AEM V2 cold air.....bad idea?
If you look at the AEM website, the bypass valve is only for the standard CAI. You would be completely destroying the design of the V2 by attempting to put a bypass valve in. Not to mention, it won't fit...
V2 is a true CAI with an expansion chamber that supposedly creates a better vacuum to draw in a cooler denser charge of air.
I'd get a SRI...cheaper than all of those and they add the same amount of power as the standard CAI.

RE: AEM V2 cold air.....bad idea?
I agree to an extent.
A CAI is no more efficient or even better than a SRI. The temperatures under the hood versus in the wheel well are almost exactly the same when cruising. Essentially, the only difference between a CAI and a SRI is the lengthof the tube. A CAI will result in the air moving a little faster resulting in MAYBE one or two more HP than the SRI...but that's about it.

If it is slower throttle response it's an not noticeable. I'm going with the fastest response out there for NA: ITBs FTW!!!

I just ordered aem v2 COLD AIR INTAKE. It is a true cold air, like people said it just has the expanded chamber, just get a hydro sheild and youll be fine becuase the bypass valve does not work on it.

You won't hydrolock unless your car is under two feet of water. The filter has to be submerged in water to actually hydrolock.

I think intake systems in general are over rated. There are other parts of the engine that you can focus and spend your money on and get way more results. For example: header, exhaust, internals, turbo, supercharger, etc...
