Only downfall is that jet black is going to show every little grain of sand.

I think it'll look alot better than that dirty brown or what ever dirty color it is now. I say try it and post pics before and after. GL!

RE: changing my carpet.

before cleaning... REALLY bad.

after cleaning, still pretty bad.

good news is that under the carpet, besides some dirt, is in great shape.

now i need to figure out how to dye it... your suppose to put this dye in a bowl and sit whatever it is you want to dye in it... it would have to be a big bowl to fold that carpet up into.

RE: changing my carpet.

i have a big plastic bucket, and the carpet is sitting inside of it now soaking up some dye. its not gonna be jet black, it will be a very dark gray, almost black. ill prob let it stay for in for 2 days.

i wonder what my neighbors think of me? i was outside earlier stirring a big bucket full of black fluid. they prob think im crazy.

RE: changing my carpet. UPDATE

the dye worked great, but apparently i had spilled some oil at one point on the carpet. so now im getting the oil out of the carpet because it stopped the dye in a few places, but other than that the color turned out great. im cleaning the carpet now and will let it sit overnight again to see if it helps.

thanks guys.

cost was 16 dollars, which bought 6 packs of Rit dye. then after i sprayed the carpet clean, i let it sit in the dye for 2 days. then took it out and let it dry in the sun then threw it back in the car.

i love DIY projects, so im always trying to find something to do with my car.

RE: black carpet FINISHED!!!

Nice work I might try this with mine instead of spending the money on carpet from the junk yard

1999 MBP 3.2TL-P 6MT

Customer: Hey do you think we should change out the transmission fluid?
Mechanic: No, it still looks nice and pink.
Customer: Well, a pussy can look nice and pink and still give you AIDs.
Mechanic: Yea, we should probably go ahead and change it.

pretty self explanatory.
1. take carpet out of car
2. clean carpet
3. put carpet in dye
4. when ready, let dry
5. put it back in the car

did you end up using a kiddy pool or what? i can deal with takin the carpet out cleaning it and mixing the dye, i'm just curious as to how exactly you went about dying it.
