JDM D15B Vtec Swap
A friend of mine want to swap a D15B Vtec motor into his 1990 4Door. How hard is the swap? Are the motor mounts different? I know the wiring will be a little different. Thanks for the help.

RE: JDM D15B Vtec Swap
i believe the mounts are different. although i think hasport makes mounts for this swap. *correct me if im wrong guys.
- isnt the d15b obd0? its definitely doable, but i dont think its conventional. i forsee headaches for whoever swaps this b/c the d15 is obd1 i believe. going carb to fuel injection. hell also need a different ecu and a wiring harness.
- what kinda tranny is in the car now?

RE: JDM D15B Vtec Swap
It should not be to hard to swap. just pull the other motor out you should be able to use th old harness, you are going to have to wire up vtec tho and if its carborated you need to get a harness for that . And you might be able to use a coulpe motor mounts .just try it and see how it goes i no it can be done . its just your going to have to take some time to do it

RE: JDM D15B Vtec Swap
The car is duel point injection not carburated. I talk to a guy that I work with about the swap and he said I will have to get different motor mounts. He also said that some of the wiring will be different. I have no idea what trans I have. Is there away to look? The new motor will be coming with a new trans.

RE: JDM D15B Vtec Swap
hmm, i'm not sure about what wiring stuff, except you will have to wire in vtec. it will proabbly be different since its jdm. make sure you get the right ECU with it too. and yeah your gonna need the motor mounts. by trans you mean tranny? if its coming with a new one then don't worry about what one you have, i don't think it matters.

RE: JDM D15B Vtec Swap
ah i c. the only reason i asked about the tranny is because your old one might not beable to be used with the new motor, but since the new motor is commin with a tranny, your set.

RE: JDM D15B Vtec Swap
Truthfully I wouldn't recommend the swap.
It's alot of time and effort for such a small gain.
I did the swap in my 91 Civic DX Hatchback, and in the end was very disappointed.
First Off you have to try and find some mounts for the swap from hasport cause the ones that come on the motor don't line-up right, though you can modify them to.
and second thing there is alot of wiring to do with the stock and new wiring harness. Since the D15B2 is a Dual-Point, meaning it is Half Fuel injected, half carbeurated, you must wire in the 4 injectors from the new harness to the stock harness.(NOTE: YOU MUST USE THE STOCK HARNESS IN ORDER FOR THE SWAP TO WORK, YOU JUST HAVE TO PRETTY MUCH CUT UP YOU STOCK HARNESS AND AND MOVE EVERYTHING FROM YOUR NEW HARNESS TO THE STOCK ONE)
In the end it was to much time and effort and really not much of a noticable change.

Just tell your friend to save up for a JDM B16 Swap, way more worth the time and money. Any other questions feel free to ask.

i beg to differ. i have a friend that has a 90 civic hatch. he put the d16z6 in it and boosted it. car ran high 13's and he probably barely spent somewhere around 1500.
