Honda Prelude factory alarm system. Help please!!!
Hey guys, Yesterday I discovered that my 1996 Prelude has a Honda factory option alarm system kit installed, might even have the siren kit as well.

My questions. What do I need to do to get this system to work?
Besides getting an alarm remote and programming it, what else?

If everything is fine with it, it should just work [Image: dunno.gif]

That's the thing. How do I check that the system is working? When I purchased the Prelude it never had the remote transmitter. I was driving it all this time without even knowing that I actually have a full factory option alarm system kit installed.

Here's the deal with "factory" alarms...

2 scenarios:

1) when car dealers (especially in the 90's) sold cars, they had mobile electronics companies come in and mass-install alarms in all of their cars. If the buyer chose to pay for the alarm, they got the remotes, if not, they didn't. This proved profitable because of the amount of time that was saved... back then before every car had a factory security system. So if this is the case with you, you need to figure out what type of alarm you have, which can be somewhat difficult because everyone from all corners of the world made alarms in the 90s. But if you can identify it (by finding the brain most likely under your dash as a black plastic box about half the size of a VHS tape) then you just need to buy remotes and 'code' them to your alarm brain. It might also be possible that you have a keyless entry upgrade. Meaning if you have keyless entry, an aftermarket alarm reads the lock/unlock as arm/disarm. I can help you with this if this no matter the case.

2) you have an actual factory alarm... primitive, but a security system nonetheless. The way it works is off of the key itself. 1996 Prelude MIGHT have an encoded key, or the security system piggy backs off the factory keyless entry much like a keyless entry upgrade. Simple test... roll down a window, lock the door with the key, wait 2 minutes then open the door from the inside. If the horn sounds, unlock your driver's door with the key. If this is the case, then you have this type of factory security system.

Take some pix of what you think is the siren and anything else you think is alarm related and send them to me, I'll help you identify your system.

Thanks for some useful info man. I have a OEM Honda alarm system. It was available as factory option for my base model Prelude S and I think Vtec and Si models already had one as standard option.

Here is the link to what I have, what I need to know is what remote control I need and where to program it other than the dealership?

I tried to test it the way you said, but no results, no sounds. Can it be no fuse? Is there a fuse location for this? The main unit is under the seat and also see a connector under there that is unplugged. Could that be it?
