Sup R9,
been on here for a minute. Had a build thread on a 90 Accord H22 swap ahwile back, but now its time for a new one.
Got this civic for $400.00 about a month ago, i didnt know if it ran or not, honestly never gave it a chance. Imediately pulled the motor/trans and everything useless for a k swap including all interior.
This will strictly be a track car (no drag)
So the plan is, as of now:
~K24 (crv) with TSX internals
~K20 head, maybe cams. Depends on $$$$
~04 Type-S trans with CRV FD and CC clutch
~Full adjustable suspension, possible Koni Yellows and GC coils
~Full polyurethane bushing all the way around
~6 point cage
~Body & Paint - thinking flat army green (olive), black, or white (??)
~Also have a spilitter (pictured hanging on pin board) ima use for high speed tracks to help with downforce (ARP freebie)
Now some pics.. Sorry quality isnt great (celli pics)
Thanks, be awhile before shes done. love to have her for next season but i doubt it. i plan to have the engine bay stitch weld.. rest of chasis will be caged and hopefully i can come across the rising/expanding foam alot of road racers use for the rocker pannels & what not
Quick question, why TSX internals? You can get some quality machined bottom ends for pretty cheap, the CRV crank will work as long as you get it micro polished and all. I mean I know the TSX has some decent internals but they just don't measure up to Wiseco or JE stuff. Unless you staying under the stock TSX bottom end's capacity that is, then by all means rock em.

Well to start it is kind of a budget build at this point, the big boy stuff can come later as far as nicer internals and what not, possibly an SC.
Also i have 3 K24's to play with and i plan on using the one that doesnt need to be sleaved. I know a guy who made 240 whp and 210trq on a k24 with tsx rods/pistons with a 07 civic SI head + K-Pro of course and for a car thatll hopefully weigh somewhere around 1600 lbs, thats plenty esp. when putting it though the twisties. And i work at a Honda dealerso i can get the parts CHEAP!
Ill have bigger better plans for it once i get it moving and have a deceant suspension set up (<-key part)
Ya, that's kinda what I figured but wanted to ask anyhow. TSX internals are the way to go for a basically stock K24. 240ish in a 91 hatch will be no joke, the NA will give you a beautiful power band. I can see you passing that mark with the right stuff. Look into an RBC mani, cheaper than a RRC and flows more than enough for what will basically be a TSX k24. Some decent street cams with springs and retainers, a solid intake, and a well planned full exhaust should have you within reach of 240-250whp on a good tune.

Yea, i actually already have the RBC manifold, i was gonna use it on my K20z in the RSX but itll go to better use on this esp with the better flow rate.
Deff. looking at a nice valve train set up as well, thinking IPS or Blueprint cams with maybe S2 spring, retainer, valves. I really want to do the moddified s2k oil pump, but i think i may stick with the k20 pump for now, my ultimate goal would be to see 10,000 rpm redline, in the future, i know this build i prob. wont see past 8,500 or so. Which would be plenty considering the car its going in.
& a custom, maybe KTeller exhaust 3' will be installed with race header. ANyone know what the best header to use for a EF chasis is? Ive seen alot but there mainly for EG/EK
I think the dtr/ ssr replica k swap header have an ef application those dynographs were pretty impressive compared to soom other high end headers toda buddy club ect.
Well considering the i-VTEC differences, the A3 versus A2 debate is that the A2 has a more standard VTEC system but with a continually variable spark curve (as I understand it), and the A3 just has the timing dealio (again, as I understand it).
I'm still not 100% on that, but that's essentially what I've read.

EP3 (mini Odyssey)
Chicago
a3 is the economy version 2 lobe vtec there is no true vtec mechanism on the exhaust side. it was designed for low end tq and emissions
the vtec is on after 2200rpm
a2 is pwr 3 lobe vtec on both intake and exhaust vtec in at 5800rpm
Ive done quite abit of research on this very subject. Im planning to K20 power my 91 crx. as far as the a2 vs a3 head goes, chiwhitesi got it right, but let me add to what he said.
a2 has standard vtec, the same style that we have come to love, with the added feature of varible advance/retard on the intake cam. 6 lobes per cylinder (2 primary for both intake and exhaust, and 1 secondary for both intake and exhaust)
a3 is a bit different. it does have vtec, but a "dumbed down" version of it. it only has vtec on the intake cam, and it only has 2 lobes per cylinder(intake side). low rpms, each valve runs on its own lobe, 1 on a small lobe (barely opens the valve) and 1 on a high lobe. this creates and swirl effect in the combustion chamber for better combustion. when vtec kicks in, they both run on the high lobe. its kinda cool, and for the money its a helluva set up. i can get a complete a3 long block for like 500 bucks. but its a far cry from the a2, or z1/3 head.
Cant wait to see the end result... Keep us posted.

Yea im deff. leaning towards the A2 head for sure. If i can find a Z1 head that would be great, with the difference in cam profile, but either way ill be happy as long as it hsa "true vtec". M.F'ers arent cheap thats for sure! Ill be in Nj this weekend maybe i can find a deal on a stolen one, hahaha!
Ill post more pics when i get going again. I need to finish cleaning out the car and pressure wash the whole thing then start stitch welding and the cage.
Anyone know where to find the right tool to stitch weld?

I like Blueprint's stuff, if I went with them I would just get the whole valve terrain from them. S2 springs and retainers are cheaper, but I'm not 100% sold on them as of yet. Outside of that, this car should be a beast.

yea ive always felt the same way about S2^ cams and what not.. Kinda giving them the benefit of the doubt. But IDK, just depends on the funds and how patient i can be when coming down to final assembly
Thanks ^^ Lynchburg/Appomatox area.. This might be uput on hold tho.. I may have to use the K24 black for my RSX-S.. Coming to work this morning i went through a huge pudel and the car started to spudder. so i killed it let it sit for a minute, then restared it. It runs fine when driving normal, but as soon as you try vtec it spudders again and MIl flashes.. I hope it an easy fix if anything at all. Ima do a compression check and replace the plugs tonight and see what happens
Ill look into that, thanks! Luckily nothing is wrong with my RSX.. It got a little moisure in it but nothing major. Did the compression check and changed spark plugs, and s it all good. So now i need to source a head for the K24 block.. ANy ideas?
Make sure you scour the junkyards too. The 8th gen Civics developed a bad rep as far as a source for swap motors. I bet it wouldn't be hard to find a decent Z3 head...not to mention they have RBC intakes...would need a plate to adapt a cable operated throttle body to it but might be worth the time.
