I'm new...and this is really long!
hey soooo this is a super long post if you dont want to read it all scrooll down to the main part of why i am posting haha
and start reading when you see this

[START HERE]

i bought a 1998 ex for 3000
about 4 months ago with 102,xxx miles
and i am learning the hard way on how to actualy take car of a car thats older then 10 years. my first car was a mirage i totaled, seccond car a 1993 integra! i loved it, intell i blew the engine and ended up with a rod through the block. with 200,xxx miles
with the b18 i figured it would be easire and cheeper to buy a new car.
so i bough my civic i have today

it came pretty much stock.
cept for the tail lights. which are pretty ugly if you ask me and the rims
which...are..fine i guess

i added
the 4-2-1 header
the aem cai
and the exhuast. which i dont like any more. its kinda annoying and i wish i would have been more patient and saved up more for a more decent one. any ways thats what i have

i drove the hell out of it.
way to fast every where and any where
in 3 months i got one ticket and pulled over 4 times for just different things.
no front licends.
running a red light.
tail lights out.
and modified exhaust
i guess the cops didnt like how my car set off other car allarms in the mall parking structure....who new?
haha

soo 2 weeks ago

driving 3 small girls in the back and my best friend up front we decide to take a trip to LA its about 2 and a half hours from where i live. i still drove it rough passing people high rev. you name it

on the way back i was going way to fast 3 in the morning
with no one on the free way.
and i wanted to pass the cars in front of me. so i down shifted to 3d
going like 75. and kept going to like 85+ and right as it red lined....

BAMMMM it happened

a roumple and i lost all power. i had to drive super slow dropping them all offf to there house.

2 days after not driving it i was driving to my machanic and i heard it happen again but this time i was driving super careful!!
and it caused me to not be able to drive over 30 mph

ON THE FREE WAY!!!!

so i pulled over and had it towed to my house.

[ START HERE]

i finaly pulled the oil pan down last week,
and
3 of the bearings where gone, looked so thin and they were copper colored. when i drained my oil there were metal flakes,

not good i no,
and 3 of the conecting rods were burnt,
the block looks fine. and the seems to not have damage.

other then the conecting rods and the bearings it looked normal,
now my question to every one who can help is

can i throw on a new set of bearings and call it a day? flush out my engine of the metall and be done? and put in a new crank?

or should i do a complete swap?

onlything is.. is i only have abbout $750
and the d16y8 is going to be 950
and a jdm d15b is going to be 650
i can do all the labor at my house

but i would have to get the jdm d15b cuz of the lack of money
if i got that one can i put my y8 head on the d15b block??

dont people do that with or somthing similar to with the ls-vtec?

i'm kinda new to the whole honda scene

sooooo let me know what youthink!!!!

and thanks for reading, i know its an essay!
this is what happens when i should be wwriting my reall essay.

ohh and pictures will be up soon

Welcome. ThumbUp What kind of rims are those? They look awfully similar to the kind that were on my old civic, except smaller.

Rebuilding your y8 is an option, but i would recommend replacing the engine. Im assuming the $950 you speak of is from an engine dealer. You can certainly get that engine for less from a salvage yard and being such a common engine it wont be hard to find.

Putting SOHC Vtec head on a non-vtec d15 is refered to as a "mini-me" swap and a good starting platform for a n/a d-series build. but by the time your done buying everything to do it, you woulda been better off getting another y8.

BTW, you woulda been better off swapping out the engine in the teg than buying a new car. The b18a1 found in the teg is another one of those engines that are a dime a dozen...i actually have one just laying around.

PS Love the wheels and loose the tail lights. put some Si lights on that thing FTW
