So a friend just informed me...
Growing up his dad build a ZC powered CRX. He liked the car so much that he is picking up a CRX after getting his bonus.

As soon as I can I'll get him on this site, he's a cool guy that has amazing, realistic plans for a very unique CRX. Just wanted to see what this community thought about his plans as I keep telling him to not give in and go with it.

Engine: DOHC D series ZC. I love this part, it's unique and will make the car stand out in a crowd of Hondas. He plans a nice NA build to include I/H/E, cams and built bottom end. Won't be a powerhouse but it will be a very rare look.

Paint: Superior Blue, again with the awesome but overlooked. It's a great light blue that when done right will pull some looks.

Wheels: SSR Type-C in gunmetal or polished. Either one IMO will rock.

Interior He says he wants something simple and clean. Maybe some mid level racing seats or a quality factory seat like the RSX.

Suspension: Again, he's undecided but a nice set of coilovers or Ground Control sleeves is what I'm suggesting but I would like to hear more from the CRX fans.

Let me know your ideas or recommendations so I can pass them along. Even if it's not listed here give us your ideas. Thanks guys and I know you guys will pull something out.

SWEET!!! I would love to build a ZC. And it can be a powerhouse. in stock trim theyre not that impressive, but MUGEN, back in the day, had a killer road racing 87 Civic Si that ran a ZC. 230hp or something like that.

I know video games arent always the best place to do research (haha), but the car made it to gran turismo 4. I love that car. after seeing on there i did some research. couldnt really find anything except some pictures and a few replicas.

the car sounds like itll be a goer though, cant wait to see it!

No, there are about a billion CRX B series swaps running around. The simple fact that he's hunting a ZC motor is what's so rare. Almost no one uses them in builds anymore. Too easy to plop a b16/18 or even a K20 in there that the ZC is a forgotten motor is all.

For me, and many, the odd ball stuff is what sets you apart. Sure he will get owned by the crate b18 guys all day, but how unoriginal are they?

RE: So a friend just informed me...
The ZC is more rare than the B series swaps. But that's for a reason. I honestly don't see the point. Those motors were EVERYWHERE back in the day. Infact, there was some busted up CRX at a junkyard with a ZC laying out of the engine bay in front of the car. This was like a month or two ago.

My friends had a ZC that they used to pass back and forth between chassis' like a hooker.

There's plenty of other rare parts you can buy for the car. It's always going to be fun to go fast. A B series CRX isn't lame or anything. Personally, I'd either do a B series or better.

Then throw in some rare OEM JDM parts or something. Like the glass roof for the CRX...something kinda wild like that.

Maybe buy a real nice rare set of wheels or seats or something...IDK.

It's hard to make Hondas stand out. I really don't try to make them stand out anymore after having like 18 million of them in the past 7 years. It seems like your friend will be selling himself short trying to stand out. That's like saying "everyone has a PS3, I think that to stand out (for no reason), I'll buy a PS2 because nobody's buying those anymore."

The significance of the reference there is:
1.) who cares if everyone has them? They're better.
2.) PS2s were popular not so long ago. It's not like anyone's going to go DAAAAAAAAAMN...WHERE DID YOU COP THAT PS2?!! Just like nobody's gonna say "HOLY F#$K, LOOK AT THAT ZC...I HAVEN'T SEEN THAT MOTOR IN A CAR IN LIKE...20 MINS!!"
3.) I don't play video games.

lol...I'm not trying to be harsh. Just sayin.

As far as the suspension goes, the GC sleeves are nice as long as you're going to very very moderately lower the car. EFs have really short suspension travel. You will bumpstop EFs very easily.

If you really wanted a nice ride and/or wanted the car low, you'd have to get a full body adjustable coilover. You don't have to spend a shit ton of money. PIC is actually a local company around here. They make really decent setups for under $1k IIRC.

There are a bunch of other quality full body adjustable coilovers available.

For the paint...was that blue you're talking about an OEM color for the EFs? I used to have this really really nice light pearl blue EF. It was like the BEST color for the car. It makes my heart hurt just talking about that car. I want that car back so bad. I have seen maybe a handful of other cars in that color. It was like a blue with a bunch of purple and silver flake in it. Sad Sad
Also, for the seats: Have you seen the OEM CRX Si seats?! Best seats ever!!

The RSX seats really wouldn't match the car. They're a little too "modern" looking for that car. It would look just thrown together with the RSX seats, IMO. I've seen CRXes or civics with RSX seats and I was turned off. I'd DEF. go cloth on it. The 88-91 CRX Si seats looked like the Recaros from the 1st gen MR2.

OMG OMG OMG...Just got an AWESOME idea. You can't do any better than this on seats. Confetti print or Gradient Recaros.

Confetti print is pretty self explanatory. It's like a bunch of colored dashes all over the seats.

Gradient seats are the ones that say RECARO real dark on top and then the RECARO logo fades away as it's repeated down the seat. like this:

http://www.yoursciontc.com/forums/index....opic=26508

ARRGHHHH those would look SOOO good in an CRX.
These are the MR2 style recaros I'm talking about (2nd pic down on page 8)

http://www.soompi.com/forums/index.php?s...066&st=140

These would also be sick in a CRX.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploads15...502802.jpg

IDK...I like seats and wheels. I'd put your creative juices into seats and wheels. Get them in colors or finishes that nobody has.

Like...those seats and some like work Equips in either 13 14 or 15'' variety. BAM.

http://www.japanesenostalgiccar.com/foru...p%2002.jpg

Or some panasports:
http://www.thezstore.com/store/graphics/...1016-T.jpg

You'd be spending some money...but there's your stand out right there. I love E-building cars lol.

I'd probably get some 14s. You can find decent tires in 14'' and CRXes look good with some meat on the tires without making the wheels look too big.

My EF had 13'' 5 spoke PRIME wheels that looked like slipstreams when you removed the center caps (came with the car). Spray painted white. Looked sooooo dope. The tires were like 185/70R13 or something lol. It seriously looked bad ass.

Remember that it's an old car with old lines. Stuff that's too modern probably won't look right on it IMO. It looks artificial and not well thought out to me when you try to put wheels that look too modern on cars like that.

VTEC is like getting your d$%k sucked by a lightning bolt.

This, I know how B serious is and how he talks. It's not insults it's opinions. I can dance the dance all day long on a K and I know a lil something something about the B but the D and the ZC are out of my realm. I thought the ZC would be cool cuz of the once popular and now rare use. He feels it's pointless to go with it because the B is a better motor (and it is).

I am digging the confetti seats and the panasports wheels. I'mm show him that stuff and see what he thinks. I've already talked to him about the glass roof and all. We'll see and I'm tryin to get him on here.

And yes, e-builds are the best.

RE: So a friend just informed me...
the great thing about the zc is that its cheap and can make some decent numbers for not much money.

It is rare...now. back in the day it was almost over done. but now there is a whole new generation entering our great way of life. younger people showing up at auto-x meets and car shows, people that may never have heard of a zc, or not sen one in person. the greatest thing is these same people may not have much of their own money and maybe just bought their first 1990 hatch. when they see they can have a piece of history for almost no money at all and put down decent numbers, they become interested...

thats the great thing about turbo d- series, and ZCs. Sure they were over done, but they are slowly getting lost. swapping a K-series ina crx is expensive (trust me!), but a zc swap can be done for less then my next paycheck.

Crower, Delta Camshaft, Webb Cam Inc. and several other places either make cams or can regrind cams they already make to work. The same companies can hook you up with the proper springs and retainers to use too.

With the motors once super popular status the parts are out there, and for not too bad a price either, you just have to dig a little deeper is all.
