Ep3 steering knuckle problem
who has ever done lowering springs on an ep3? Seems my friend when he seperated the knuckle from the strut, he let the strut just fall down outward..now he is having trouble pushing it back up.

He says he checked on forums, and said if that falls too far, the splines on the axle will get messed and it will be a bitch.

Anyone have any experience or more knowledge on it?

It takes 8,460 bolts to assemble an automobile, and one nut to scatter it all over the road.

If he seperated an axle, he needs to pray he'll be lucky enough to push on it just right so i pops back in. Otherwise remove the axle from the trans and hub, open up the boot, and get ready for a greasy mess and a LOT of fineageling and swearing.

I've had to put a few axles back together. Suuuuucked.
It's probably the inner joint on the axle if it's popped out. He can grab the axle shaft and kinda...like...arrgh...it's hard to explain. You lift up and push/plunge it back in at the same time while rotating it slightly...all in one motion. Keep trying that back and forth and kinda feel it out...it will pop back in.

It's very sexual, I know.

RE: Ep3 steering knuckle problem
Seems the axle wasn't a problem. Somehow the ball joint popped out, and when they put the car in neutral, it popped back in and it let them push the knuckle back up. Now they're having problems putting the axle nut back on 'cause when it was tapped on (beat with a hammer) to push it out (it never came out anyways), it caused a lip on the end and it prevents the nut from screwing on.

Heh, I guess they'll try grinding that lip down or something.

Wtf? Are u hanging out with gorillas and cavemen?? Who beats on a threaded post with a hammer??!

Lol...tell them to refer to my clocking bushings thread in the suspension DIY section. Or he will have a squishy, creaky ep3 in a year or sooner.

All is swell. They figured something out.

I'll let him know about your clocking.
You mentioned UCA and Shocks in that thread.

The same idea applies to MacPherson suspensions?

RE: Ep3 steering knuckle problem
No. You only clock applicable bushings. Never worked on an ep suspension.. The front may only need the one LCA pivot clocked. U should still have to do a bunch of stuff to the rears, though.

RE: Ep3 steering knuckle problem
No, after they were having this problem...they decided to stick to the stock suspension for now. Lol
They only touched the LF side.

RE: Ep3 steering knuckle problem
LOL. Nice. I mean...how much more can go wrong, though? They might as well just lower the damn thing. Or atleast take it somewhere to be lowered.

I remember working on cars back in the day when I didn't know what I was doing.

I remember lowering my first car on Tein Flexes back in 2003 and it taking me FOREVER.

I jumped head first into a motor swap. Took me 2 months to figure out the wiring because I refused to spend money on buying a harness. I made my own lol.

It was all down hill after that, though. Feels like in 2006 to 2008, we did a new engine swap every week in my garage haha.

:sigh: memories.

IDk. I would have continued with it. They know what not to do on the other sides, now.
