Checking Honda ECU Codes
Checking the trouble code on a Honda for many of the different years of Honda, is actually pretty easy. There is a way to check the trouble code on the ECU by just getting a paperclip or a little piece of wire, and stretching it out, so you will be using both ends of it.

You need to first locate your Honda or Acura ECU, which is typically on the passanger side either near the kick panel on the right, or below the glove box. You will see a loose connector, that is usually yellow or blue in color.

Checking for the trouble code at this point is easy. Make sure your car is turned off, and take the paperclip or wire that you had earlier, and stick each end into each connection piece of the connector you found. Make sure to get a good connection. Once you have this connection, all you need to do is turn the key to the IGN position, and then make sure you look at your check engine light or CEL light, as it will start to flash the code.

There are going to be short flashes, and also long flashes. Each long flash counts as a 10, and easch short flash counts as a 1. So if you get:

LONG LONG LONG LONG SHORT SHORT SHORT PAUSE

Then you have a code of 43.

The flashing will continue, so if you missed it the first time, wait until after the long pause to start counting again.

If anyone has any suggestions, tips or tricks, please post them here!

RE: Checking Honda ECU Codes
Do you happen to know where the connector is located at on a 93 Civic.. I looked all around under the dash and by the ecu and didn't see anything.. Do you have to disconnect a plug from the ecu to do it? I really need to figure out what code my car is throwing..

a lot of common abs codes are thrown because of lack of use. pressure losses, crap gets built up on sensors. but here's the list
ABS codes:
1 - ABS pump motor over-run
1 2 ABS pump motor
1 3 high pressure leakage
1 4 pressure switch
1 8 high pressure system
2 1 parking brake
3 1 pulser RF
3 2 pulser LF
3 4 pulser RR
3 8 pulser LR
3 12 different diameter tires
4 1 wheel sensor RF
4 2 wheel sensor LF
4 4 wheel sensor RR
4 8 wheel sensor LR
5 - rear wheel lock - R/L
5 4 rear wheel lock - R
5 8 rear wheel lock - L
6 - fail-safe relay - F/R
6 1 fail-safe relay - F
6 4 fail-safe relay - R
7 1 solenoid - RF
7 2 solenoid - LF
7 4 solenoid - R
8 1 ABS function
8 2 CPU comparison
8 4 IC self-check

clearing abs codes in the control unit memory:
remove the abs b2 fuse in the abs fuse box under your hood for three seconds

there are no srs codes. if it's on it means something is wrong in the supplemental restraint system. unless you're really sure of what you're doing i wouldn't fuck with it. that's one thing i'd go to the dealer for

but if you know you've fixed it
clearing SRS light:
1. Turn the ignition switch OFF, and wait for ten seconds.
2. Connect a short (paper clip) to the Memeory Erase Signal (MES) connector.
3. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
4. The SRS indicator light comes on for about six seconds and then goes off. Remove the short from the MES connecotr within four seconds after the SRS indicator light went off.
5. The SRS indictortr light comes on again. Reconnect the short to the MES connector within four seconds after the SRS indicator light comes on.
6. The SRS indicator light goes off. Remove the short from the MES connector within four seconds.
7. The SRS indicator light indicates that the memory is erased by blinking two times.

The ten second delay at the beginning is very important or the memory will not reset.
